What is Myofunctional Therapy?

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is exercise based therapy focused on strengthening and reeducating the facial and oral motor muscles to improve function.

Can Myofunctional Therapy Help Me or My Child?

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) works to retrain muscles of the mouth and face to restore proper function.  When function is compromised people experience:

If you or your child are experiencing any of these symptoms it is worth scheduling an evaluation to see whether OMT will help your specific situation.

What are the Benefits of Myofunctional Therapy?

The overall goal is to restore function.  I work with clients to improve nasal breathing, chewing, swallowing and optimize the resting position of the lips and tongue.  All clients have different goals and experience a variety of different benefits, however when goals have been achieved clients most often report:

  • Reduction in Pain and Tension

  • More restful sleep

  • Increased energy through the day

  • Better Focus

  • More Comfortable Digestion

What Does Therapy Look Like?

Therapy varies heavily on patient needs and goals.

  • 60 - 90 min Functional Evaluation to determine goals

  • virtual 30 min sessions every 1- 4 weeks

  • 5-15 minutes of exercises completed at home twice daily

  • Commitment to mindfulness and willingness to learn

A full course of therapy includes 8 - 24 sessions spread out over 6 -12 months and could involve other modalities such as orthodontics or ENT.

Do You Work Virtually?

Yes, I see most of my clients virtually.  I like to complete the Functional Evaluation in person and see clients soon after a functional frenuloplasty in person as well.  I work with a local office to coordinate those appointments but most therapy is conducted online.

What Ages Do you Treat?

I work with ages 5 and up.  No one is too old to benefit from Myofunctional Therapy.

I am happy to screen younger kiddos and if I don't feel comfortable treating them myself I will help you find a suitable provider to fit your needs.

What is Mini-Myo?

Mini Myo is a program for younger children ages 4-6 who aren't mature enough for a full course of Myofunctional Therapy.  I work with parents to establish good habits that will hopefully prevent long term symptoms listed above.

How Much Does it Cost?

Number of sessions vary based on treatment needs of each client.

  • 30 Min Virtual Consultation - $50

  • 60-90 Min Functional Evaluation - $250

  • *Prices are subject to change

Do You Offer Family Discounts?

Yes, the second family member receives a complimentary discount.

How Long Is A Course of Myofunctional Therapy?

A typical course of therapy lasts 6 -12 months.  Length of therapy depends on the client's needs, goals and motivation.   Please also be aware that we may need to pause treatment for other modalities such as orthodontics.

Do You Have a Cancellation Fee?

If you are unable to attend your appointment please let me know at least 24-hours in advance so that I might make that appointment available for another client. I work to respect the time of my clients and I appreciate when they respect my time and other clients time as well.

Appointments not rescheduled 24-hours in advance are subject to a $50 cancellation fee.

Thank you for understanding.

Do You Bill Insurance

No, this is a fee for service practice.

Can I Use HSA?

I have had clients successfully use HSA to pay for OMT.  Please check with your policy in advance.
